Arrival Arrangements

Finding Collingwood College: Local directions and a map may be found on the College's "How to Find Us" website pages. See also the Durham location page for information and links about getting to Durham.

Sunday 10th July: Registration will be available from 14.00 until 21.00 in Collingwood College. If you arrive outside these hours go to the College reception desk to pick up your room key and then register at the next available opportunity. If you know in advance that you will be arriving on Sunday 10th after 21.00, it would be helpful if you would email Nigel Martin with your estimated arrival time so that we know when to expect you.

Monday 11th July (a.m.): Registration will continue in Collingwood College from 9.00 until 12.00.

Monday 11th July (p.m. onwards): Our Conference office will be in Room CM103 which is on the ground floor of the Mathematics Department and will be clearly signed when you enter the building. If you arrive after 12.00 on 11th July, then you should register there, but you will probably find it easier to go first to Collingwood College reception in order to unload your luggage and pick up your room key. Again, it would be helpful if you would email Nigel Martin with your estimated arrival time so that we know when to expect you.

Finding the Mathematics Department: A map is available on the Durham University website. Collingwood College is number 6 on this map and the Mathematics Department is number 15. A footpath connects the two locations and it is about 10 minutes' walk downhill from the College to the Department.

Taxis: The cost of a taxi from Durham railway station to Collingwood College in daytime hours should be less than £10.00.

Car parking: This is freely available at Collingwood College and no permit is required. However, if you are coming by car, please email Nigel Martin so that we have an idea of how many cars to expect and whether we need to make arrangements for an overflow car park. Furthermore, car parking is very limited in the vicinity of the Mathematics Department and a permit is required there (see the next bullet point).

Moving between the College and the Department: If you anticipate any difficulty walking down (or back uphill), please tell us your requirements if you have not already done so when booking. (Please email your requirements to Nigel Martin.)

Computer access arrangements: Residents at Collingwood College will be able to plug their own laptops into the network sockets in the study bedrooms in order to get web access. There is also a wi-fi system available in the College for laptops with the necessary hardware. In addition, delegates can be supplied with a login ID in order to use public machines for web access. There are public machines available for delegate use both in Collingwood College and close to the Mathematics Department.
