Marshall Milton Keynes Athletic Club

Youth Development League Ė Summer 2016

This note is from the Young Athletesí team managers to let everyone in Marshall Milton Keynes AC, athletes, parents and coaches, know details of the Young Athletesí inter-club league competitions, and the opportunities there are for competing for the club.

As last year we are enrolled in UK Youth Development League (http://www.ukydl.org.uk/). There are two separate competitions, and MMKAC is entered in both.

U20 and U17 men and women compete together - Dates for your diaries are:

                   Sunday 1st May†† ††††††††††† at Nottingham

Sunday 29th May ††††††††††† at Worcester

Sunday 26th June††††††††††† at Stoke on Trent

                   Sunday 24th July††††††††††††† at Rugby

U15 and U13 boys and girls compete together - Dates for your diaries are:

                   Saturday 23rd April†††††††††† at Birmingham

                   Saturday 21st May†††††††††† at Nottingham

                   Sunday 19th June††††††††††† at Coventry

Saturday 16th July†††††††††† at Milton Keynes

In both competitions there is a full programme covering all track and field events, so we will be wanting to raise large teams to cover the events. We know from experience that strength in depth is the key to success, and avoiding empty places is vital. Yes, we want to field our best people, but all are welcome. It really isnít for the superstars only.

We have four team mangers to organise the teams. These are, with contact details:

U20/U17 Women†††††††††† Alana Slater††††††††††††††††† alanaslater35@sky.com†††††††††††† 07736 540741

Weíll be working with the coaches and around the training groups in the weeks leading up to the competition dates to see who is keen and available, and to select teams. So please look out for us then. But please also make sure that your team manager has your contact details, and make sure you let us know of availability, questions, preferences or updates as we go along.

Of course, parents and supporters are welcome at all the events. In fact more than welcome, because although the club can organise the required track officials, we also have to provide a small band of field event helpers, which we usually recruit from our supporters on the day. If you are coming to a match, please let us know if you are willing to lend a hand. No prior experience necessary!

For the away fixtures the club provides coach transport free of charge. Priority is of course for athletes, then for officials and willing helpers, and then for parents, coaches and other supporters. Parents and athletes are welcome to travel independently, but please let your team manager know if thatís your preference.

Thatís all for now. Do please make contact with your team manager, and remember that the reason for doing all this is to help our young athletes to develop by giving them some good and enjoyable competition, and for them to be able to do that as part of a supportive and achieving team.

Thanks,

Alana, Karen, Richard
