MK5000 PB Special – in association with the British Milers’ Club – starring Jessica Judd
Marshall Milton Keynes AC is hosting a new event on Saturday, with the aims of improving 5000m personal bests and improving the spectator experience. Entry is free so anyone can come along to cheer on the runners. Runners will feature their names on their numbers for easy identification. Spectators will be able to stand in lane 4 of the track so they will be close to the action. There will be a beer tent and other drinks for sale at the track. At least four food outlets will be on hand so that spectators will have lots of street food choices during the day.
There will be 11 races for around 250 runners, with the first starting at 3:45pm for runners with personal bests between 19 and 22 minutes. The races will get quicker and quicker as the afternoon progresses. The last three races, promoted by the British Milers’ Club, starting at 7:45pm will feature many of the strongest 5000m runners in the country. The penultimate race, for elite women, will feature Great Britain’s Jessica Judd and Emelia Gorecka.
Each race will be paced to 3000m to ensure that there will be great opportunities for runners to achieve personal bests. Most of the races will involve 15-25 runners with personal bests within 30 seconds of each other. Two race clocks will be used to give runners up-to-date information. Commentators will keep spectators well informed and there will be music to add atmosphere to the proceedings.
Local clubs will be involved with runners from Marshall Milton Keynes, Redway Runners, Leighton Buzzard, Ampthill & Flitwick Flyers and the MK Distance Project all well represented. So, if you want to experience this exciting new event come along to the track on Saturday afternoon/evening to enjoy this fantastic event.
