My research in ubiquitous computing has included the Mobile Computing in a Fieldwork Environment project which explored the uses of context-awareness and mobile computing technologies to provide support for fieldwork activities in the environmental sciences and archaeology (Pascoe et al. 2000). This work was carried out when I was at the University of Kent.
At the Open University I have worked with Simon Holland on the applications of Direct Combination to ubiquitous computing (Holland et al. 2002b) and issues in audio navigation (Holland et al. 2002a).
More recently, I have been working with David Bowers on a landmark recognition project. This project took a great step forward when we hosted three sixth-form students who were in receipt of Nuffield Science Bursaries. The three students working as summer interns in the Computing Department.
