BackgroundThe CRESTES model builds on previous work. Although the CRESTES project
officially started towards the end of September 2004, it is rooted in effort
estimation related empirical research that has been on-going since 1996 (e.g. [Ramil
and Lehman 2000; Ramil and Lehman 2001; Ramil and Smith 2002; Ramil 2003]. The
research is influenced by Lehman’s investigations into the
software evolution phenomenon which started in the early 70s [FEAST; Lehman and
