What's the best way to broaden your local network?  What concrete (not meant architecturally, but metaphorically) tools/techniques/games can we use?

We had a lot of success when we did a skills audit of the neighbourhood. We invited the community to tea and cake and talked to people about their skills and experience. We handed out a quick questionnaire asking people what ideas they could contribute to the project and what other local assets they could think of. Then we compiled a database of supporters which listed their particular skills and experience. Now when we want some help with IT or fundraising we have a pool of people we know can help and are happy to be involved.

Thanks those are great practical tips

This is a great idea - we have events at the centre including barbecues our experience that anything involving food is a big draw. At the same time we had a focus of fundraising for one of the groups at the centre. We know there are skills out there too!
